Launching Fabricatorz!

Filed under: Projects — Lu @ 3:17 pm

Along with our project Show Some Color video event coming Tuesday, Jon and I launched Fabricatorz website. What is Fabricatorz? Here is something we wrote on “About”:

Fabricatorz is a production company founded by artists Jon Phillips and Deer Fang. This company is a sustainable open collaborative structure so that art, media and commercial projects may be actualized locally and globally. Fabricatorz are the fabricators of our contemporary society. Each project exposes and opens up contemporary production means and processes iteratively shaping culture beyond the information age.

Two major aspects of Fabricatorz projects are exposing production process and have people as important resource and component of projects. Jon and I are primary members of Fabricatorz, and according to different projects there will be different collaborative members. And of course we are still shaping, changing and learning as we are doing.

Coming October 30!

Filed under: Exhibitions & Events, Projects — Lu @ 1:27 pm

Show Some Color project is moving forward. Thanks for the generous funding of Southern Exposure’s Alternative Exposure Grant, Show Some Color (Part 2) is going to take place on October 30 in 111 Minna. In June 07 we submitted grant proposal to SOEX under Fabricators, a group with primary members of Jon Phillips and I, and alternating collaborators based on projects. As many of the previous projects, the plan has been changing and evolving since then. Currently we are casting six women who will produce 5 minutes video about their racial identities with our camera crew. Interviews will take place this coming Wednesday at 111 Minna.

Part Two of the project in comparison to Part One has broader involvements. Not only participants in front of the camera but also people who are making the videos. After the casting, Jay Dedman, leading media producer from video blogging community will invite video bloggers to team up with each of the six women participants. So during the event, one video crew will be producing these five minutes video with women on the Zappa Room stage; and groups of video bloggers and women will also be making videos in the space.

Keep in mind that even we are working during the event, you are invited to come join, hang out and drink! This will be during happy hours of 111 Minna and also we will have drink tickets to give away. And of course there is no charge at the door as long as you are 21 or above. Raf Canedo and Eric Zhu will have DJ performance!

Here is the event flier. Spread the word. Contact me if anyone might be interested in coming for the casting and or interested in making some videos.

Fabricators website is launching soon. We are working on that…

Casting female roles!

Filed under: Projects — Lu @ 5:04 pm

We are casting 6 female roles for a video project about racial identities.
You can be anyone as long as you are comfortable in front of a camera.

This is part of a video project titled Show Some Color (Part 2). You will have 5 minutes camera time to produce a video clip based on your understanding of your racial identity. It can be speech, story telling, dance, singing, improve, showing your special skills and many other ways that are not listed here.

This project is produced by video and media artists Deer Fang, Jon Phillips and Sarah Wylie Ammerman. Funding of the project is provided by Alternative Exposure Grant from Southern Exposure.

Production and Open Event

The final taping is a simultaneous open event, where you will produce the video with our camera crew while audience in the event will be able to see the process of making the video. The event is to take place on October 30 from 5PM to 9PM in downtown San Francisco gallery/bar 111 Minna.

Besides camera crew, local media producers will also be interviewing participants and recording this live event. DJ sets and socializing will take up the rest of the night to this completely open and free to the public event. Limited amount of drink tickets will be given out.

This will be a great event to network with other independent artists and video producers, so everyone should come on out!

Compensation, award and Exposure

There will be six participants selected for the final taping and each of them receives $75. Produced video clips will be accessible online for viewers’ voting. Most voted popular performer will be awarded $150.

Videos will also be shown on Channel 29 in November. Date to be announced.
